Komekia Peterson is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), and Nationally Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC). She has over 10 years’ experience working with a diverse group of individuals and families which gives her expertise in mental health, substance abuse, health and wellness, facilitating psycho-educational groups, and crisis-intervention. She is also a liaison between clients and community resources. Komekia has extensive training in the following approaches; Client-Centered, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, and Strength-Based Counseling which is strongly entrenched in her counseling style.
Komekia views counseling as a collaborative working relationship where she provides a safe and non-judgmental setting to process issues of concern and utilize different interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Technique (CBT) and Mindfulness. She naturally has a strong sense of unconditional positive regard and empathy which is deeply rooted in her rapport building style and positive counseling relationship establishment ability. Komekia has a great commitment to providing the highest standard of therapeutic care for individuals, families and communities to contribute to encouraging mental health services that improve the quality of life.
Overall, Komekia provides a holistic approach to counseling which allows the client to effectively connect various aspects (mind, body, and spirit) of their life. Although she believes the client is the expert on themselves, her personal goal as a counselor is to assist with achieving identified goals by facilitating a process of increased self-confidence, improved self-awareness and personal insight, and honing in on strengths, as well as areas for growth and potential barriers.
Komekia will begin accepting new clients on June 1, 2019.
